Increasing availability of newer molecular tools has expanded our knowledge of viruses infecting snakes. DNA viruses reported from snakes include the Herpesviridae, Adenoviridae, Iridoviridae, Papillomaviridae, and Parvoviridae. RNA viruses of snakes include the Paramyxoviridae, Retroviridae, Reoviridae, Togaviridae, Flaviviridae, Caliciviridae, and Picorniviridae. I will present an overview of several important snake viral diseases, including paramyxovirus, inclusion body disease, and the emergent nidovirus and sunshine virus.
